Kilyos town in Istanbul

Kilyos is a small and charming resort on the Black Sea coast about 35 kilometers (21 miles) north of Istanbul city center (Taksim Square), on the European side. Kilyos is also named as Kumköy, meaning "sandy village" in Turkish. The town is famous for its long sandy beaches which becomes very popular during the summer months, especially at the weekends. You can get to Kilyos from Sariyer district and through Belgrade forest. This is a winding road with several barbeque places so it's usually packed with cars and people going to picnic or swimming. The sea is usually clean, the beach is fine sand, but when there is a windy day one should be careful about the rough waves which may become hazardeous even for the experienced swimmer. In the summer there are lifeguards but you should watch especially for the undertow.

Kilyos has small motels, guesthouses, camping facilities and restaurans serving during the summer months. Many beach clubs and bars are mostly frequented by young people from the city or from nearby summer houses. Some of the beach clubs in and near Kilyos are: Dalia, Solar, Uzunya, and Burç (this one belongs to the Bosphorus University).

Zekeriyaköy and Demirciköy are small villages that became very popular residential areas during the last 10-15 years, whealty people have their homes here to be away from the big city in the middle of the nature but at the same time being close to the center (about 30 minutes drive). Uskumruköy and Kisikkaya are also popular beaches around Kilyos.

Hope to see you soon in Istanbul.
