Grand Camlica Mosque

Grand Camlica Mosque in IstanbulThe Grand Camlica Mosque (Büyük Çamlica Camii) is located on one of the highest points in Istanbul, on Çamlica Hill in the district of Üsküdar. It's the largest mosque in the history of the Republic of Turkey and a modern symbol of the city's skyline. The mosque offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Bosphorus and both the European and Asian sides of the city. Its lighting at night makes it visible from almost anywhere in Istanbul.

The mosque was designed in the "Külliye" (complex) style, blending classical Ottoman architecture with modern touches. The main dome stands 72 meters high and its diameter is 34 meters, representing the city's license plate code (34). It features six minarets; Four of them are 107.1 meters tall, a tribute to the Victory of Manzikert in 1071, and the other two are 90 meters tall. The "alem" (crescent/finial) atop the main dome is the largest in the world.

The mosque can accommodate 63,000 people simultaneously in its indoor and outdoor areas. The structure was designed to shelter up to 100,000 people in the event of a natural disaster. It is more than just a place of worship; it is a massive cultural hub housing the Museum of Islamic Civilizations, an art gallery, library, conference hall, and a massive underground parking lot.

Hope to see you soon in Istanbul.
