Turkish Airlines Offices in Istanbul

THY (Turk Hava Yollari) or Turkish Airlines is the national air carrier of Turkey. It was founded in 1933 with the name of "State Airlines Administration" as a department of Ministry of Defense which after two years was turned over to the Ministry of Public Affairs. In the beginning, THY had only 4 small planes with a total of 19 seat capacity. In 1947 it made first international flight to Athens, then in 1956 it changed its name to "Turk Hava Yollari" (Turkish Airlines). As of the beginning of 2014, it has a huge fleet of 249 aircrafts composed by Airbuses and Boeings, carrying more than 40 million passengers a year.

Turkish Airlines is named as the "Best Airline in Europe" for three years consecutevly in 2011-2012-2013 by the customers at the World Airline Awards. Since 2008, THY has been a member of the world's largest airline group: Star Alliance. By the end of 2013, Turkish Airlines upgraded the number of flight points to 241 (199 international and 42 domestic), which makes it the only airline in the world flying to more destinations than any other airline company.

As for the domestic flights from Istanbul, Turkish Airlines has connections to every major city with an airport throughout Turkey.
